Home is like a heaven for every individual. People spend time in peace and comfort from their tough daily routines. So, that’s why a home should be that place where you have all the basic facilities according to your personal needs along with environmental needs. Home is the place to protect you from constantly changing weather, whether it is hot, cold or raining because it acts as the shelter for humans. So, to maintain your home according to your needs, it is important to understand the weather of that area in which you are living.

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire; it is time for home.”

Edith Sitwell

Suppose if you are living in the USA then every state of the US has different weather, and home maintenance techniques are different for every state. Like if you are living in Baton Rouge (Capital city of Louisiana state in the USA) then you need to understand the weather condition of your city in which you are living. In this piece of writing, we are specifically going to give you some tips to maintain your home before winters, if you are living in Baton Rouge.

Winter Home Maintenance Tips

Baton Rouge is very hot and humid in summers, and it gets cold in winter. But this area of the US occasionally experience snowfall (like it last happened in 2004 and 2008). So, we need to make plans for home maintenance according to this area, as it is more like a rainy area. Here are the following some tips for property management if you are living in Baton Rouge.

Check your Gutters and drainage system

As you already know, Baton Rouge has rainy weather in winter. So, it is better to plan according to this. Before starting the winter, you should fix your gutters and drainage system, because when it is raining, you will not have to worry about the drainage system of your home. It is very important to keep the gutters and drainage system of your house functional and in the running system. To keep it running and prevent it from clogging it is important to fix them before winters.

Fix your window shafts

This is the second most important thing to do before starting the winters. It is going to be cold and rainy weather in winter, so it is important to prepare accordingly. Good windows block the cold and rainy water to come inside the house. You need the fix the liner of your windows because they give the room to rainy water and soil to come inside the house. Inspect the liners of windows with great care and if it is necessary then you should change these, if it is necessary then you should seal them permanently.

Check the air conditioners and heating system

When winter comes, the heating system inside the house is one of the most important factors inside the house. It is used to keep the house warm in cold and rainy weather. So, you should check your centralized heating system to keep all thigs in good order inside the house.

Check the electricity system of home

When winter hits the city, it brings cold weather with rains and dark. So, to keep your house light up, you should check the electrical system of your house, like wiring, electrical circuits, wall sockets, and cords. if anything is not in good working condition then you need to change that thing and arrange a substitute for electricity.

Some more common tips to maintain your home

Here are some more common tips to keep your home ready for the winter season. By following these tips, you will not feel any inconvenience in winters.

  • Winters come with storms, so you should trim your trees to avoid any damage during winter storms.
  • Reverse your fans, in this way your heating system will work effectively and efficiently.
  • Protect your plants from harsh weather, so it is better to bring sensitive plants and pots inside the house to keep them away from harsh weather.
  • Clean your chimneys and fireplaces, so you can light up the fire in the winter season. You should check, whether it is a gas fireplace or a wooden one.
  • Check the rooftop to see if there are any holes or cracks, then fix them up. Through these cracks, water can come inside your house.
